AI ethics discourse: mixed qualitative and NLP analysis workflow

A research workflow combining qualitative coding with NLP topic modelling to study changes in OpenAI ethical discourse across public and academic-facing documentation.

Workflow level n/a Source: Preprint (not peer-reviewed) Outcome: Not empirically evaluated here

Research applicability

An example of computationally assisted social-science research that links qualitative interpretation to topic-level changes in a documentary corpus.

Getting started

Editorial, untested: inspect the paper and author-linked AI_Ethics_Discourse repository; define audience strata and an auditable coding protocol before adapting the workflow.

Maintenance

Source accessed 2026-10-17; runtime compatibility and maintenance not evaluated.

License

Article, repository and data permissions must be checked separately before reuse. No blanket open-licence claim.

Workflow & human oversight

Resource-level automation unspecified; researchers select the task, assess data rights and inspect outputs. Source review is not an executed workflow.

Workflow level is not an evidence score; higher is not better evidence.

Approach

The authors assemble a structured corpus separated by audience, combine inductively derived and deductively applied qualitative codes, and use computational content analysis to model topics and quantify rhetorical changes over time.

Limitations

Abstract-only review of arXiv v1. The linked code repository and related journal DOI were identified but not inspected. NLP model, corpus coverage, coding reliability, preprocessing and implementation requirements are unknown. No discourse findings or efficacy estimates are adopted as verified outcomes.

Reproducibility

Fresh primary abstract reading only; no software execution, data audit or experiment reproduced.

Adoption requirements

Editorial, untested: obtain the full methods and linked code, confirm document reuse rights and corpus coverage, and plan human checking of both topic interpretations and qualitative codes.
