MASTER: multi-agent reasoning for materials simulations
MASTER is an active-learning framework in which large language models design, execute and interpret atomistic simulations for materials research, according to the authors.
Workflow level n/a Source: Preprint (not peer-reviewed)
Research applicability
Demonstrates a research-specific architecture for selecting and interpreting atomistic simulations with hierarchical language-model reasoning.
Getting started
Read the cited abstract and paper, then assess the stated adoption requirements. Adoption suggestions are editorial and untested, not an executed recipe.
Maintenance
Research-publication record; implementation maintenance not verified.
License
Software and dataset licensing not independently audited.
Workflow & human oversight
Workflow level left unspecified: the abstract does not establish operational boundaries and researcher responsibilities sufficiently for a level claim. Researchers remain responsible for domain validation, safety and interpretation.
Workflow level is not an evidence score; higher is not better evidence.
Approach
A multimodal system translates natural language into density-functional-theory workflows. Higher-level agents compare single-agent reasoning with peer-review, triage-ranking and triage-forms strategies for CO adsorption studies on Cu-surface transition-metal adatoms and M-N-C catalysts.
Outcomes (as reported by the originating team)
The authors report fewer required atomistic simulations than trial-and-error selection in two CO-adsorption applications. The comparison was not reproduced and no general speedup is asserted.
Limitations
Abstract-only primary-source review. No software, hardware, dataset or reported outcome independently reproduced; detailed methods, evaluation settings, distribution and licensing were not inspected.
Reproducibility
Primary abstract and bibliographic identity checked on 2026-10-17; no execution or outcome reproduction.
Adoption requirements
Editorial, untested guidance: assess access to density-functional-theory software and compute, model access and electronic-structure expertise. Check simulation setup and convergence, inspect proposed chemistry and account for data privacy and compute cost. A runnable distribution was not verified.
