PANDA: electrodeposited polymer-film self-driving laboratory

PANDA combines automated electrodeposition with optical and electrochemical characterization to study functional polymer films.

Workflow level n/a Source: Preprint (not peer-reviewed) Outcome: Author-reported

Research applicability

A concrete example of integrating experiment selection, fabrication and multimodal measurements for polymer-film research.

Getting started

Read the cited primary abstract and paper to assess fit. Suggested adoption steps are editorial and untested; obtain and check detailed methods before implementation.

Maintenance

Research-publication record; deployment and maintenance not verified.

License

No software or data licence independently audited.

Workflow & human oversight

Platform-level automation is author-described; workflow level left unspecified because scope and researcher responsibilities depend on the implementation. Human safety and research oversight remain required.

Workflow level is not an evidence score; higher is not better evidence.

Approach

The authors describe a modified CNC gantry with a syringe pump, potentiostat and telecentric-lens camera, using custom transparent conducting well plates. A PEDOT:PSS campaign combines Latin hypercube sampling with Bayesian-optimization-based active learning over monomer concentration, deposition time and voltage.

Outcomes (as reported by the originating team)

The authors report a proof-of-concept PEDOT:PSS electrochromic-optimization campaign and control experiments; no quantitative improvement is asserted here.

Limitations

Abstract-only canonical source review; supporting paper excerpts were inspected separately but software and hardware were not executed. Calibration, repeatability and optimization are author-reported; no independent performance or cost verification. The arXiv page links a journal DOI, but the journal article was not independently reviewed.

Reproducibility

Primary abstract source and identity checked on 2026-10-17; no software, hardware or reported outcome reproduced.

Adoption requirements

Editorial, untested guidance: requires electrochemistry expertise, compatible robotic fluid handling, potentiostat and optical hardware, sample fabrication and laboratory safety controls; not a turn-key software installation. Verify code availability and licence with the authors before reuse.
