SWIF²T: focused feedback for scientific writing

SWIF²T is an LLM-based focused-feedback framework intended to identify weaknesses in scientific manuscripts and suggest revisions through planner, investigator, reviewer and controller components.

Workflow level n/a Source: Peer-reviewed source Outcome: Author-reported

Research applicability

Concrete research-writing and automated-review framework focused on manuscript content rather than style alone; potentially useful for studying actionable feedback under researcher oversight.

Getting started

Editorial, untested starting point: compare the four-component feedback design with a non-confidential manuscript example, but inspect full methods before implementing it and have researchers verify every substantive criticism.

Maintenance

Maintenance, current compatibility and released-artifact availability not independently audited.

License

Source and companion-artifact reuse rights not audited; inspect applicable terms before reuse.

Workflow & human oversight

Resource-level automation classification unspecified. This is a research/reference listing, not an exercised workflow; researchers select objectives and check interpretation and outputs.

Workflow level is not an evidence score; higher is not better evidence.

Approach

The authors describe four LLM-backed components and a dataset of 300 peer reviews citing manuscript weaknesses. They report human evaluation favouring their feedback on specificity, reading comprehension and overall helpfulness compared with other approaches.

Limitations

Abstract-only substantive review plus official ACL Anthology publication metadata. Dataset size is not the number of human evaluators or a count of tested papers. Human evaluation belongs to the authors’ study, not this AI editorial review. Model choices, prompts, scoring protocol, statistical significance and failure rates were not inspected. No generated feedback, software execution, privacy/security audit or independent outcome reproduction was performed. Reported helpfulness does not establish manuscript correctness or justify replacing expert review.

Reproducibility

Primary sources read at disclosed scope. No installation, software execution or independent reproduction. Saved envelopes and available raw origins retain retrieval provenance.

Adoption requirements

Editorial, untested use: read the paper and obtain implementation and evaluation details before any pilot. Runtime, model-provider costs and repository distribution were not established in this abstract review. Do not expose confidential or unpublished work without an appropriate data-handling basis.
