Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Model Powered Literature Review Services

A review of four AI literature-search services gives retrieval-appraisal metrics and cautions about incomplete recall. It advises treating AI output as a first pass followed by conventional database searches.

Research applicability

Helps researchers examine the completeness and relevance of AI-assisted literature retrieval. This is appraisal guidance, not a reproduced service benchmark.

Getting started

Read the primary methods and adapt only after checking source limitations; this is editorial guidance, not an executed recipe.

Maintenance

Only the cited snapshot was reviewed; present installation, maintained service availability and latest-version parity are unverified.

License

Check original licences, data rights and provider terms; source access is not reuse permission. No installation or rights audit performed.

Workflow & human oversight

Scoped L2: The fuller article documents a connected human-orchestrated search/appraisal process: natural-language question and AI retrieval/synthesis, researcher comparison against relevant/missed/irrelevant articles, metric calculation using a reference review or pre-annotated query pairs, and conventional database searching. This is methodological guidance rather than an executed study of benefit. Human control and gaps: Researchers choose an appropriate up-to-date reference review/dataset and perform completeness checks.

Workflow level is not an evidence score; higher is not better evidence.

Approach

AI first-pass retrieval and synthesis → researcher appraisal of relevant, missed and irrelevant articles against a reference set → conventional database searches for completeness.

Outcomes (as reported by the originating team)

Author-reported findings or documented capabilities only; no independent reproduction or expert validation was performed.

Limitations

Historical platform descriptions and proposed appraisal metrics; no compared service, model or research outcome was independently tested here. Supplementary material was not inspected.

Reproducibility

Source-text review with frozen provenance. No candidate software, models, data uploads or research outcomes were executed or reproduced.

Adoption requirements

Verify research scope, data rights, tool requirements and outputs before use; these editorial suggestions were not executed.
